Lisete da Silva
Lisete da Silva was born in Lisbon and pursued studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she won numerous prizes for her solo performances as well as for chamber music. Lisete pursues a varied career as a soloist, teacher, director and ensemble player, having been a finalist in the Moeck International Competition for solo recorder. Professional engagements have included performances with the Handel Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment amongst others, in the UK, EC and South America. Regular engagements with Concertante of London and Mercurius Company provide a constant vehicle for demonstrating the great variety of repertoire for the flute and recorder in the orchestral setting.
As an enemble musician Lisete has performed at some of Europe’s most prestigious festivals and venues including Barcelona Early Music Festival and Aldeburgh Festival. She performed for the Park Lane Group at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall in programmes of contemporary music, has done numerous broadcasts for BBC Radios 2 and 3, Radio and Television of Catalunia. Lisete co-founded Spirituoso with Ricardo Barros and Nicholas Stringfellow and in 2009 the trio were appointed Ensemble in Residence at the Handel House Museum in London (a position they will hold until the end of 2010), having a busy schedule with performances in Germany, Ireland and the UK. Lisete was featured, in April, together with Spirituoso, in Deutsche Welle’s TV Culture 21 programme were she presented Handel Fever as part of the German TVs celebration of Handel’s 250th anniversary.
Lisete is part of the Early Music Academy of Lisbon International Early Music courses. She is currently a professor of Recorder and Chamber Music at the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and the Arts where she directs Blackheath Baroque. Lisete has recently recorded two CDs of music by Dornel and Bach’s ‘Musical Offering’ available on the NAXOS and Somm labels.
