Sophia Brumfitt
Sophia Brumfitt’s career has covered the full range of early music, from medieval ensembles, Bardos Band, Tintagel and multi-media group Daughters of Elvin to choral work with Gabriel Garrido’s Elyma and the Chorus of St. Martin’s in the Fields.
She has researched, presented and promoted her own concert of theatre music from the 1690’s in Songs for Mary Hodgson, and founded the duo Rosa Mundi with Australian lutenist Rosemary Hodgson.
In 2005 and 2006, Rosa Mundi performed to sell-out audiences including concerts at the Salisbury Festival, Norfolk and Norwich Festival, St. David’s Cathedral Festival and The Merchant’s House, Marlborough.
They have compiled a disc of English and Italian Lute songs which is now available on Maiseyday Music. Since then Sophia’s work has been extremely varied, ranging from an appearance on Radio 4's Woman's Hour talking about the enduring love song,
an acting debut at DownPatrick Opera Fringe Festival, Northern Ireland, performances at Beverley and East Riding Early Music Festival, Hexham Abbey Festival, Music in Quiet Places for Notts and Lincs, Totnes Early Music Society,
Haslemere Museum courtesy of the Dolmetsch Foundation and even a WitchFest at Fairfield Halls. Recordings with both Bardos Band and Daughters of Elvin have been played on Radio 3’s Late Junction.
